Which works are MaPrimeRénov' eligible?

Two routes, two scopes. On the single-measure route, since 1 September 2026 and in mainland France: heating heat pumps (air-to-water, ground-source), connection to a district heating or cooling network mainly supplied by renewable or recovered energy, oil tank removal, energy audit carried out where regulations do not already make it mandatory. On the supported pathway (comprehensive renovation, gain of at least two classes): the whole package, insulation and ventilation included. Insulation, windows, ventilation, wood-burning appliances and domestic hot water can therefore no longer be funded as a standalone measure. For works on the home itself, in mainland France, they remain fundable under the supported pathway, subject to its conditions, including those of the order of 17 November 2020 (art. 13-2); outside that pathway, they keep their CEE (energy saving certificate) bonuses; the 5.5% VAT rate is unchanged; the éco-PTZ (zero-interest eco-loan) remains open to those that make up one of its actions — ventilation installed on its own is not one (it only counts as an accessory to a heating or hot-water measure under action d): French Construction and Housing Code (CCH), art. D. 319-16, I, 1°, d)).

How much can I receive?

The amount depends on the household's income bracket, the pathway and the works: the current scale is published on france-renov.gouv.fr. On the single-measure route, higher-income households are not eligible in mainland France; on the supported pathway (whole-home renovation), the grant is computed on an eligible-spending cap of €30,000 excl. VAT (two-class gain) or €40,000 excl. VAT (three classes or more), at a rate that depends on income. Stacking depends on the pathway: on the single-measure route, the grant adds to CEE and the eco-PTZ; under the supported pathway (whole-home renovation), only the eco-PTZ still stacks — the certificates are reserved exclusively to the Anah, which folds them into the grant (decree no. 2020-26, art. 3, II-2°).

From when can F and G rated homes no longer be let?

In mainland France, a dwelling is deemed non-decent — and can no longer be let as is — from 1 January 2025 if rated G, 1 January 2028 if rated F, 1 January 2034 if rated E. In Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion and Mayotte: from 1 January 2028 for class G and 1 January 2031 for class F, class E remaining decent there.

Why get put in touch with a partner?

They can advance MaPrimeRénov', deduct it from the final invoice and coordinate RGE contractors: you then only pay your net amount, with no cash advance. Under the single-measure route they can also advance the CEE bonuses; under the supported pathway those are reserved exclusively to the Anah, which folds them into the grant. The supported pathway requires an approved Accompagnateur Rénov' (renovation coordinator) — check their approval on france-renov.gouv.fr.

How long do MaPrimeRénov' renovations take?

By nature: attic insulation 1-3 days, exterior wall insulation (ITE) 2-4 weeks, heat pump 2-5 days, full renovation 3-6 months. Timeline also includes grant file (4-8 weeks of Anah validation before start), often managed in parallel by the partner.

Must I be owner-occupier to qualify?

No: MaPrimeRénov' can fund a home that its owner lets out, under the conditions of art. 1, II of decree no. 2020-26: the home is let as a main residence within one year of the request for payment of the balance of the grant, and stays let for at least six years from that same date; the owner informs the tenant of the funded works and, if the rent is revalued, deducts the grant from the cost of the works justifying the increase; at the date the grant decision is notified, the home was completed at least fifteen years earlier in mainland France, more than two years earlier in Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion and Mayotte; finally, in mainland France, it must be rated A to E before works for applications filed from 1 January 2028 under the single-measure route (items 4 to 8 of annex 1: heating heat pumps other than air-to-air, connection to a district heating or cooling network mainly supplied by renewable or recovered energy, oil tank removal, energy audit carried out where regulations do not already make it mandatory), and E to G before the first or only step of works for the supported pathway (whole-home renovation, item 15 of annex 1). Useful given the decency deadlines in mainland France: class G from 2025, class F from 2028.

Has MaPrimeRénov' changed recently?

Yes. Since 1 September 2026 (decree no. 2026-822), the single-measure route has been narrowed: in mainland France it now only funds heating heat pumps other than air-to-air, connection to a district heating or cooling network mainly supplied by renewable or recovered energy, oil tank removal and an energy audit carried out where regulations do not already make it mandatory. What counts is the date the application is filed. In mainland France, for MaPrimeRénov', insulation, windows, ventilation, wood-burning appliances and domestic hot water now fall under the supported pathway (whole-home renovation) only, which requires a prior energy audit and, from the first step of works, a gain of at least two DPE classes and at least two envelope work items (walls, lower floors, roof, windows). The supported pathway requires an approved Accompagnateur Rénov' (renovation coordinator) — check their approval on france-renov.gouv.fr. Check current rates on france-renov.gouv.fr.

How is renovation quality controlled?

Mandatory post-renovation audit (full renovation) by an approved auditor, checking compliance with recommendations. On the single-measure route: no mandatory audit but the partner usually does visual + invoice checks.

Can I combine multiple grants (MPR + CEE + eco-PTZ)?

It depends on the pathway. Under the single-measure route, yes: MPR (subsidy) + CEE (energy bonus, income-independent) + eco-PTZ (0% loan, within the cap opened by the number of qualifying actions within the meaning of art. D. 319-16 of the French Construction and Housing Code (CCH): €7,000 for glazing and doors alone, €15,000 for one action, €25,000 for two, €30,000 from three up (art. D. 319-21 of the CCH), and up to €50,000 for three other categories of works set out in the same article, including works that reach a minimum overall energy performance); grants are then capped at a share of eligible spending that depends on the income bracket, and beyond the cap CEE bonuses are kept and MaPrimeRénov' is reduced accordingly. Under the supported pathway (whole-home renovation), CEE do not add to the grant: the beneficiary undertakes to reserve them exclusively to the Anah (decree no. 2020-26, art. 3, II-2°), which claims and folds them into MaPrimeRénov' itself; the eco-PTZ, for its part, still stacks. The partner can calculate the optimization.

Which materials/equipment qualify for the grant?

The list is set by Annex 1 to decree no. 2020-26, rewritten on 1 September 2026. As a standalone measure in mainland France, only these remain: heat pumps other than air-to-air used for heating (air-to-water, ground-source or solar-assisted), connection to a district heating or cooling network mainly supplied by renewable or recovered energy, oil tank removal, energy audit carried out where regulations do not already make it mandatory. The heat pump must have no back-up device able to run on fossil fuel. Insulation, windows, dual-flow ventilation, wood stoves and boilers, thermodynamic and solar water heaters now fall under the supported pathway only. In the French overseas departments, solar water heaters, solar shading, ventilated over-roofs and ventilated cladding remain eligible as standalone measures. Contractors must be RGE-certified for the matching qualification (QualiPAC, Qualibat, QualiENR).
