Understanding DPE ratings
The DPE rates homes from A (very efficient) to G (energy sieve) based on their primary energy consumption in kWh/m²/year
2025 regulations
Since 1 January 2025, homes rated G are banned from being rented out. Homes rated F will be affected in 2028, then those rated E in 2034.

What our barometer reveals across 689,279 certificates
We ran 689,279 certificates filed with ADEME through the same coherence engine that analyses yours. The result: 11.1% show at least one major inconsistency — nearly one certificate in nine.
The surprising result: the inconsistency rate does not follow performance
Contrary to intuition, the most fragile certificates are not the worst-rated ones. The full ranking, from most to least affected, is: B (27.9%), G (22.2%), A (19.7%), C (15.7%), E (5.9%), D (5.4%) and finally F (4.3%). There is no logic of performance in that: homes declared highly efficient lead the ranking, but so do G-rated ones — while F-rated homes, just as energy-hungry, are the LEAST affected class in the analysed sample.
It is the two ends of the scale that concentrate inconsistencies, and the middle that carries the fewest. That is technically coherent: very low and very high consumption are both harder to reconcile with a given building than a mid-range value, so cross-checks between consumption, envelope and usage have more opportunities to contradict each other. We have no established explanation for where class F sits, and we would rather say so than invent one. The takeaway is simple: a flattering label deserves exactly as much checking as a poor one.
The most frequent inconsistencies, all severities combined
These three rates count every severity, from a simple attention signal to a major inconsistency. That is why a single family can exceed the 11.1% in the first statistic, which counts only major inconsistencies. Domestic hot water illustrates this: it is frequent, but none of its anomalies reaches the major level.

Three things to check yourself first
- Is the floor area right? Habitable area and Carrez area are not the same thing, and the error propagates through the whole calculation.
- Do the heating energy and hot-water system match your actual installation?
- Is the label plausible given the construction year and the insulation you can observe?
An inconsistency does not mean your label is wrong, nor that a professional was at fault. It means declared values do not hold together — and that this deserves checking before a sale or a letting.
