Key facts

  • 19% of homes with a DPE in Argenteuil are rated F or G, against 12% in mainland France — and the gap persists at comparable building age and type (19%).
  • 11% of homes with a DPE in Argenteuil are on district heating (4.1% in mainland France).
  • 42% of valid DPEs in Argenteuil were generated from the building's DPE, without a rating measured for the flat itself (29% in mainland France).
  • 25% of homes with a DPE in Argenteuil have shared (collective) heating (15% in mainland France).

Energy and climate ratings

Among 13,591 valid DPEs of homes (excluding generated DPEs) in Argenteuil, rating D is the most common; 32% reach ratings A to C.

If the homes with a DPE in Argenteuil had the same mix of building age and type (house, flat) as mainland France, the F+G share would be 19% (-0.9 pt versus the observed figure).

Small homes are the most often poorly rated in Argenteuil: 24% of assessed homes under 25 m² are rated F or G, against 17% for those of 70-99 m².

For 15% of homes with a DPE in Argenteuil whose published class is reproduced, the climate rating (greenhouse-gas emissions) sets the DPE class: the final rating is the worse of the two (18% in mainland France).

11% of homes with a DPE in Argenteuil whose published class is reproduced would change rating with 5 kWh/m²/year of consumption, or 1 kg CO₂/m²/year of emissions, more or less: they sit on a class boundary (1,557 homes; 12% in mainland France). For them, a small measurement gap or a minor work can move the letter.

On 1 January 2027, the electricity primary-energy conversion factor drops from 1.9 to 1.7 (order of 19 August 2026). Among the 2,637 F- or G-rated homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) in Argenteuil whose DPE is still valid on that date, whose published class is reproduced and whose scale could be read, 15% could obtain a certificate of a new rating, at least one class better, downloadable from ADEME's DPE-Audit Observatory. The original DPE remains valid until it expires.

Frequently asked questions — Argenteuil

How many energy-inefficient homes are there in Argenteuil?

Of the 13,591 homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) since 1 July 2021 whose DPE is valid on 25 August 2026, 2,642 are rated F or G (19%), including 1,182 rated G. At building age and type comparable to mainland France, the share would be 19%. These are homes with a DPE, not every home in the city.

Why are some DPEs in Argenteuil generated from the building?

42% of valid DPEs in Argenteuil were generated from the building's DPE, without a rating measured for the flat itself. The rules allow this for flats in an already-assessed building. These DPEs are counted separately on this page: they report F and G less often in older buildings, and almost never summer comfort.

Is district heating common in Argenteuil?

11% of homes with a DPE in Argenteuil are on district heating, against 4.1% in mainland France. In the DPE, district heating's primary energy is counted with a factor of 1, and its greenhouse-gas emissions depend on each network's own carbon content.

How are homes in Argenteuil heated?

According to their DPEs, homes in Argenteuil are mainly heated by electricity (43%), natural gas (41%), district heating (11%). In mainland France, electricity heats 50% of homes with a DPE and natural gas 36%.

What do DPEs in Argenteuil say about summer comfort?

87% of homes with a DPE in Argenteuil fill in the DPE's summer comfort section. Of these, 42% are rated insufficient, 40% average and 18% good. The fill-in rate varies widely: these figures describe DPEs that complete the section, not the whole city.

Comparable cities

Cities chosen for their similar size, climate, building stock or département.

Among its comparable cities (Vitry-sur-Seine, Colombes, Montreuil, Saint-Denis, Dunkirk, Amiens and Créteil), Argenteuil has neither the highest nor the lowest value on any indicator; however, its share of F- or G-rated homes (19%) is above the group median (15%) and its median price per m² for a flat (€3,347) is below the group median (€4,103).
