Key facts

  • 43% of valid DPEs in La Rochelle were generated from the building's DPE, without a rating measured for the flat itself (29% in mainland France).

  • 6.2% of homes with a DPE in La Rochelle are rated F or G, against 12% in mainland France — and the gap persists at comparable building age and type (7.1%).
  • Electricity heats 58% of homes with a DPE in La Rochelle, against 50% in mainland France.

Energy and climate ratings

Among 20,330 valid DPEs of homes (excluding generated DPEs) in La Rochelle, rating C is the most common; 44% reach ratings A to C.

If the homes with a DPE in La Rochelle had the same mix of building age and type (house, flat) as mainland France, the F+G share would be 7.1% (+0.9 pt versus the observed figure).

By floor area, the F+G share among homes with a DPE in La Rochelle ranges from 4.6% (25-39 m²) to 9.0% (70-99 m²).

For 18% of homes with a DPE in La Rochelle whose published class is reproduced, the climate rating (greenhouse-gas emissions) sets the DPE class: the final rating is the worse of the two (18% in mainland France).

13% of homes with a DPE in La Rochelle whose published class is reproduced would change rating with 5 kWh/m²/year of consumption, or 1 kg CO₂/m²/year of emissions, more or less: they sit on a class boundary (2,721 homes; 12% in mainland France). For them, a small measurement gap or a minor work can move the letter.

On 1 January 2027, the electricity primary-energy conversion factor drops from 1.9 to 1.7 (order of 19 August 2026). Among the 1,257 F- or G-rated homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) in La Rochelle whose DPE is still valid on that date, whose published class is reproduced and whose scale could be read, 28% could obtain a certificate of a new rating, at least one class better, downloadable from ADEME's DPE-Audit Observatory. The original DPE remains valid until it expires.

Frequently asked questions — La Rochelle

How many energy-inefficient homes are there in La Rochelle?

Of the 20,330 homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) since 1 July 2021 whose DPE is valid on 25 August 2026, 1,260 are rated F or G (6.2%), including 405 rated G. At building age and type comparable to mainland France, the share would be 7.1%. These are homes with a DPE, not every home in the city.

Why are some DPEs in La Rochelle generated from the building?

43% of valid DPEs in La Rochelle were generated from the building's DPE, without a rating measured for the flat itself. The rules allow this for flats in an already-assessed building. These DPEs are counted separately on this page: they report F and G less often in older buildings, and almost never summer comfort.

How are homes in La Rochelle heated?

According to their DPEs, homes in La Rochelle are mainly heated by electricity (58%), natural gas (37%), district heating (2.5%). In mainland France, electricity heats 50% of homes with a DPE and natural gas 36%.

What do DPEs in La Rochelle say about summer comfort?

91% of homes with a DPE in La Rochelle fill in the DPE's summer comfort section. Of these, 34% are rated insufficient, 53% average and 13% good. The fill-in rate varies widely: these figures describe DPEs that complete the section, not the whole city.
