Energy and climate ratings

Among 23,352 valid DPEs of homes (excluding generated DPEs) in Pau, rating C is the most common; 44% reach ratings A to C.

If the homes with a DPE in Pau had the same mix of building age and type (house, flat) as mainland France, the F+G share would be 6.4% (+0.9 pt versus the observed figure).

By floor area, the F+G share among homes with a DPE in Pau ranges from 3.5% (70-99 m²) to 9.1% (25-39 m²).

For 18% of homes with a DPE in Pau whose published class is reproduced, the climate rating (greenhouse-gas emissions) sets the DPE class: the final rating is the worse of the two (18% in mainland France).

12% of homes with a DPE in Pau whose published class is reproduced would change rating with 5 kWh/m²/year of consumption, or 1 kg CO₂/m²/year of emissions, more or less: they sit on a class boundary (2,854 homes; 12% in mainland France). For them, a small measurement gap or a minor work can move the letter.

Frequently asked questions — Pau

How many energy-inefficient homes are there in Pau?

Of the 23,352 homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) since 1 July 2021 whose DPE is valid on 25 August 2026, 1,294 are rated F or G (5.5%), including 290 rated G. At building age and type comparable to mainland France, the share would be 6.4%. These are homes with a DPE, not every home in the city.

Why are some DPEs in Pau generated from the building?

33% of valid DPEs in Pau were generated from the building's DPE, without a rating measured for the flat itself. The rules allow this for flats in an already-assessed building. These DPEs are counted separately on this page: they report F and G less often in older buildings, and almost never summer comfort.

How are homes in Pau heated?

According to their DPEs, homes in Pau are mainly heated by electricity (48%), natural gas (48%), district heating (3.6%). In mainland France, electricity heats 50% of homes with a DPE and natural gas 36%.

What do DPEs in Pau say about summer comfort?

93% of homes with a DPE in Pau fill in the DPE's summer comfort section. Of these, 30% are rated insufficient, 48% average and 22% good. The fill-in rate varies widely: these figures describe DPEs that complete the section, not the whole city.

Comparable cities

Cities chosen for their similar size, climate, building stock or département.

Among its comparable cities (Bordeaux, Limoges, La Rochelle, Poitiers, Besançon, Aix-en-Provence, Toulouse and Valence), Pau has neither the highest nor the lowest value on any indicator; however, its share of district-heated homes (3.6%) is below the group median (5.1%) and its median price per m² for a flat (€2,048) is below the group median (€2,743).
