Energy and climate ratings

Among 33,137 valid DPEs of homes (excluding generated DPEs) in Le Havre, rating D is the most common; 25% reach ratings A to C.

If the homes with a DPE in Le Havre had the same mix of building age and type (house, flat) as mainland France, the F+G share would be 13% (-2.9 pts versus the observed figure).

By floor area, the F+G share among homes with a DPE in Le Havre ranges from 12% (100 m² and over) to 22% (25-39 m²).

For 17% of homes with a DPE in Le Havre whose published class is reproduced, the climate rating (greenhouse-gas emissions) sets the DPE class: the final rating is the worse of the two (18% in mainland France).

11% of homes with a DPE in Le Havre whose published class is reproduced would change rating with 5 kWh/m²/year of consumption, or 1 kg CO₂/m²/year of emissions, more or less: they sit on a class boundary (3,756 homes; 12% in mainland France). For them, a small measurement gap or a minor work can move the letter.

On 1 January 2027, the electricity primary-energy conversion factor drops from 1.9 to 1.7 (order of 19 August 2026). Among the 5,321 F- or G-rated homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) in Le Havre whose DPE is still valid on that date, whose published class is reproduced and whose scale could be read, 19% could obtain a certificate of a new rating, at least one class better, downloadable from ADEME's DPE-Audit Observatory. The original DPE remains valid until it expires.

Frequently asked questions — Le Havre

How many energy-inefficient homes are there in Le Havre?

Of the 33,137 homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) since 1 July 2021 whose DPE is valid on 25 August 2026, 5,401 are rated F or G (16%), including 1,851 rated G. At building age and type comparable to mainland France, the share would be 13%. These are homes with a DPE, not every home in the city.

Why are some DPEs in Le Havre generated from the building?

48% of valid DPEs in Le Havre were generated from the building's DPE, without a rating measured for the flat itself. The rules allow this for flats in an already-assessed building. These DPEs are counted separately on this page: they report F and G less often in older buildings, and almost never summer comfort.

How are homes in Le Havre heated?

According to their DPEs, homes in Le Havre are mainly heated by natural gas (48%), electricity (42%), district heating (8.5%). In mainland France, electricity heats 50% of homes with a DPE and natural gas 36%.

Is district heating common in Le Havre?

8.5% of homes with a DPE in Le Havre are on district heating, against 4.1% in mainland France. In the DPE, district heating's primary energy is counted with a factor of 1, and its greenhouse-gas emissions depend on each network's own carbon content.

What do DPEs in Le Havre say about summer comfort?

93% of homes with a DPE in Le Havre fill in the DPE's summer comfort section. Of these, 41% are rated insufficient, 36% average and 23% good. The fill-in rate varies widely: these figures describe DPEs that complete the section, not the whole city.
