Energy and climate ratings

Among 46,463 valid DPEs of homes (excluding generated DPEs) in Grenoble, rating D is the most common; 36% reach ratings A to C.

By floor area, the F+G share among homes with a DPE in Grenoble ranges from 4.4% (70-99 m²) to 14% (25-39 m²).

For 12% of homes with a DPE in Grenoble whose published class is reproduced, the climate rating (greenhouse-gas emissions) sets the DPE class: the final rating is the worse of the two (18% in mainland France).

13% of homes with a DPE in Grenoble whose published class is reproduced would change rating with 5 kWh/m²/year of consumption, or 1 kg CO₂/m²/year of emissions, more or less: they sit on a class boundary (5,963 homes; 12% in mainland France). For them, a small measurement gap or a minor work can move the letter.

Frequently asked questions — Grenoble

How many energy-inefficient homes are there in Grenoble?

Of the 46,463 homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs) since 1 July 2021 whose DPE is valid on 25 August 2026, 4,170 are rated F or G (9.0%), including 1,322 rated G. These are homes with a DPE, not every home in the city.

Is district heating common in Grenoble?

18% of homes with a DPE in Grenoble are on district heating, against 4.1% in mainland France. In the DPE, district heating's primary energy is counted with a factor of 1, and its greenhouse-gas emissions depend on each network's own carbon content.

Which postcode of Grenoble has the highest share of F- or G-rated homes?

Among homes with a DPE (excluding generated DPEs), it is 38000: 10% are rated F or G, out of 28,800 DPEs. 38100 has the lowest share (7.3%). The table by postcode also gives, for each, the share of flats and of homes built before 1948 among assessed homes.

How are homes in Grenoble heated?

According to their DPEs, homes in Grenoble are mainly heated by electricity (46%), natural gas (35%), district heating (18%). In mainland France, electricity heats 50% of homes with a DPE and natural gas 36%.

Why are some DPEs in Grenoble generated from the building?

18% of valid DPEs in Grenoble were generated from the building's DPE, without a rating measured for the flat itself. The rules allow this for flats in an already-assessed building. These DPEs are counted separately on this page: they report F and G less often in older buildings, and almost never summer comfort.
